This belief came to life during a recent community initiative at Ligstraal School, a local special needs school dedicated to supporting learners with learning disabilities. The school plays a vital role in equipping its learners with practical life skills, confidence, and independence through a structured and supportive environment.

A Project with Purpose

Over the course of one weekend, our team undertook the renovation of two Consumer Studies classrooms at the school.

To avoid disrupting the learners, all work was completed after school hours on Friday and continued through Saturday and Sunday. By Monday morning, the classrooms were ready to welcome students back into a transformed, more functional space.

The objective was clear:
To create an environment that is not only improved aesthetically, but one that actively supports safe, effective, and empowering learning.

Applying Our Expertise Where It Matters

At the core of this project was the application of Fabrinox’s stainless steel manufacturing capabilities.

All key working surfaces were designed, manufactured, and installed in stainless steel, including:

• Countertops
• Backsplashes
• Table tops
• Fully fabricated work tables

By manufacturing these elements entirely from stainless steel, we were able to create a workspace that meets the highest standards of hygiene, is easy to clean, and is exceptionally durable.

This not only ensures a safe, food-grade environment for practical learning, but also provides long-term reliability and longevity — reducing the need for frequent repairs or replacements.

The result is a professional, fit-for-purpose space that will continue to support both learners and educators for many years to come.

A Holistic Upgrade

In addition to the stainless steel installations, the classrooms were further enhanced through a range of improvements, including:

• Repainting and general refurbishment
• Installation of new educational display boards and materials
• New curtains
• Upgraded appliances, including a fridge, oven hoods, and microwave
• New fans to improve comfort
• Cooking utensils, stainless steel cutlery, and cookware
• General maintenance and repairs

Together, these upgrades have created a more functional, comfortable, and inspiring learning environment.

While the physical transformation is significant, the true value of this project lies in its impact on the learners and educators who use these spaces every day.

Ligstraal School continues to do exceptional work in developing practical skills and fostering independence among its learners. Being able to contribute to an environment that supports this mission was both a privilege and a responsibility our team embraced fully.
